Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
